Teen Book Festival Reading Group Begins!

The Teen Book Festival Reading Group's first meeting has commenced, and we're excited to get their first books ordered!  This year, we'll offer two sections of readers group - one for junior high and one for senior high.  Both sections will read books by authors from the teen book festival, but having two groups will allow Mrs. Elsloo, the librarian and TBF instructor, to choose books more suitable for students based on grade, interest and lexile scores.

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate is the first selection for our junior high students.  This increasingly popular Newbery Medal Winner is the fictional story of a real life captive gorilla named Ivan.  It explores the transformative power of unexpected friendships and is  written from Ivan's point of view!

The senior high students' first selection is Ghostbread written by Western New York native, Sonja Livingston.  It is a true life account of Ms. Livingston's struggles growing up in poverty in Western New York, and it explores one young woman's journey in overcoming hardships.
